I do not believe in "God"
My tradition teaches
that we do not know
the name of “God”
Then how and why
did we land on
this loaded term?
This English word that feels
so weighed down
by patriarchal perspectives
I do not believe in God.
I do not
believe in God.
But.
I do believe:
in Cosmic Energy and Divine Presence
I believe in the Oneness,
the Interconnectedness of All Things
I believe in the Eternal River of Love
and the Wholeness That Unites All Matter and Emptiness
I believe in the Great Lifeforce.
I believe in this knowing in my chest.
I know with every fiber of my being
that I am just a tiny speck.
That I am part of something
so much vaster
than I can conceive.
How did my people forget?
How did my people forget that we simply do not know?
How did we forget that we simply do not know
the name of That-Which-Cannot-Be-Named?
I search and I search for another word
that can approximate the Celestial Truth
that can supplant the G-word
I search,
and I search,
and I search,
and I remember that we simply do not know.
Still, I search.
